What is bullying:
Bullying is a behaviour that frightens other people and makes them upset, nervous or worried.
Bullying can be:
-
Physical: hitting, kicking, theft
-
Verbal: name-calling, racist comments
-
Indirect: spreading rumours, excluding someone from social groups, giving dirty looks
-
Cyber: threats by text messaging, misusing internet sites, e-mails, chat rooms, videos or cameras
Examples of bullying:
-
Racial - based on the students colour, ethnic origin, culture, faith community, national origin or national status
-
Homophobic - bullied because of sexuality
-
Bullying based on disability, ability, gender, appearance or circumstance
-
Sexual - unwanted physical contact or sexually abusive comments
Bullying makes people feel unsafe and unhappy, and can have a serious impact on a student. For this reason, we respond to bullying issues quickly by following the four steps as described in the Expulsion Policy.
